It was around four o’clock on Friday and a few of us were sitting in the lounge in the Lizzy dorm. Out of nowhere an RA mentions that he’s going to go to a Sam Smith concert in a few hours. I mention that I really wanted to go but just never bought tickets. He informs me that there are some being sold for just $20. For it to be at the Moda Center and that it was Sam Smith I couldn’t pass that up. So i message my friend Holland and ask her if she wants to go to the concert with me. Two hours and 40 minutes later, Holland and I are walking to the bus stop on our way to see Sam Smith. Now, what I didn’t know was how obsessed with Sam Smith Holland was. I’ve never seen her so excited and happy.
About 30 to 40 minutes we finally arrive at the Moda Center. We take some pictures and since Hollands not from Oregon she wanted all the tourist type pictures. We enter the building and the first thing we do is go to the merchandise line because those are always takes up the most amount of time. After we get our t-shirts we go get food and start making our way to our seats.
We couldn’t find our seats because someone was performing so obviously the lights were off. Holland suggest that we just seat somewhere random. I didn’t want too because I was terrified that we were going to take someone’s seats and that they would get mad but she already sat down. And what do you know, about 10 minutes later someone comes up and tells us that we are in our seats. Holland was the one talking to them, thank God, and she just told them sorry and we went to our actual seats. Our seats ended up being on the very last row of the entire arena. The arena is small enough though that we could still see Sam Smith pretty well.
He was such an amazing perform. He honestly sounds better live than recorded and it’s just so amazing. That’s honestly all I can really say to describe the concert. You could tell how much he loved performing and how much his songs meant for him. He was just so freaking amazing. It was one of the most spontaneous things I’ve ever done and I just hope more days like that are to come.
